Catalina Fishing Charters
If you are after bigger game fish, or just want to indulge in
a bit of luxury, a Catalina
Island fishing charter is the way
to go. Most Catalina fishing charter boats come with a knowledgeable
skipper, often a deck hand, and will provide tackle, lunch and
drinks as part of the deal.
You will need a valid California fishing license to be able to
board any of the charter boats. You can get yours in advance
or upon arriving on the island.
Each Catalina charter boat will have unique rates and rules depending
on the skipper, and you should call more than one Catalina
fishing charter company if you want the best
price. It’s up to you
to negotiate a price you are comfortable with.
Most if not all
boats come equipped with fishing tackle and everything you’ll
need in terms of equipment. Bring sunscreen. Don’t return
to the pier as the scarlet lobsterman with the hangover and the
tale about the “one that got away.”
A Few Recommended Catalina Fishing Charters
Check out Boat Stand Charters. Captain John Talsky is a Catalina
local who can tell you if what you’re after is even biting.
If there’s nothing around, they will tell you rather than
just take your money. You can ask Captain Talsky for availability
and recommendations on what to go after at 310 510 0455. Benefit
from local knowledge of Catalina
Island fishing and improve your
chances of tipping that scale back on Pleasure Pier.
Another great boat is the Keeper. Keeper Charters are fully equipped
to go after Marlin, Yellowtail, Tuna, and other large saltwater
sport fish. Your charter will include lunch, drinks, all your
fishing tackle, and tax. Just show up with a fishing license and
you’re good to go. Call for prices and to make your reservation
at 310 510 1623.
Looking for a Catalina boat rental, but don’t need a big
charter boat? You can rent smaller boats for up to parties of
six at the Pleasure Pier. Joe’s Rent-a-Boat can provide
smaller boats which can get you to the nearby coves and bays along
the Catalina Island coast. This is a great option for sightseeing,
snorkeling, picnicking and near-shore Catalina
fishing. You can also rent tackle right there on the pier
if you need to, or buy your own tackle as well. Open from Easter
week through until October, you can rent boats from Joe’s
by visiting the Pleasure Pier, or calling 310 510 0455.
